The island of Murter is the largest island of Sibenik archipelago and the home island of all Kornati. Jezera is a fishing place on the island of Murter, only 3km far from the mainland as in Tisno there is a bridge that connects it with the Adriatic tourist road. It was named after the small lakes that appear during autumn and winter because of the rains that fill little lime stone valleys. As soon as the first sun rays appear, these lakes disappear! The date of its founding is not known but it is supposed that, this well sheltered bay attracted the first inhabitants at the beginning of the 13th ct. At the place of the former church from 1720, there is a church of the Gospa od Zdravlja.

Scarce soil forced about 800 inhabitants to turn to the sea looking for better living so, today people from Jezera are known as good fishermen and seamen and eventually they learned how to make most of their small fields, too. But besides the traditional jobs in agriculture, olive growing and fishing, Jezera made a significant progress in tourism, too as here you can find 500 beds in private accomodation, 320 beds in apartments and the high quality camp site situated among the centennial olive groves and pine forests which can suit all the different requirements. In naturally sheltered harbour there is a marina with 250 berths that works all year round.

Jezera offers a lot of sunshine, clear seawater and the nice cove with a beautiful beach. Fresh fish and other seafood are offered daily. The yachting school is organized in the summer months. Jezera is one of the starting points for cruises to the Kornati archipelago. By its choice of local products, traditional cuisine based on sea food Jezera can satisfy even the most particular requirements and it seems to be true as many of its guests come back each year.
