Okuklje is a village on the north side of the island in the Mljet channel. Okuklje was founded during the reign of the Dubrovnik Republic. Pirates devastated the place in history so until the end of World War II no one lives in Okuklje. Today it has developed into a tourist spot. It has only two dozen people. It is very popular destination for boaters. Restaurants serve seafood specialties as well as various other local dishes. Economy is based on fishing, tourism, agriculture, olive growing and viticulture. The shore is covered with rich vegetation. Okuklje is connected to the other places on the island by a local road.
