Zavala is an attractive village and small harbour on the southern coast of the island of Hvar, with a road link with Jelsa through road tunnel (1,400 m). Zavala consists of an older, interior, and a newer, coastal part with a pier and a beach. Chief occupations are farming, viticulture, fruit growing, fishing and tourism.

The village is very interesting because of its numerous attractive beaches. You can enjoy here the untouched nature and crystal-clear sea. Besides beautiful beaches, the vicinity of Scedro, uninhabited island of wild beauty is also great attraction of this village. Zavala is famous for its excellent white wine grown in its traditional vineyards. The village and its surrounding small villages with preserved traditional houses are favourite excursion points for the Hvar visitors.

Zavala's attractions include the summer residence of the family Dubokovic-Nadalini (Biedermeyer style, about 1830) with the chapel of St. George (1866); further west, the former residence of the first owner of Zavala, Count Tadije Kacic (about 1630), and the residence of Zavala's 18th-century owner with the old chapel of St. Peter (1727) at the eastern end of the village.
