Gradac is a town and small harbor on the Makarska Riviera, 13 km east of Ploce. It is located very near the main road and connected with it by a local road. Gradac is a very ancient city, proving that the traces of a Roman wall have been found on the locality of Crkvine, close to the sea.

It got its name after a two-storey quadrangular tower with loopholes, preserved in a hamlet above the road actually built in 1661 for the purpose of defence from the Turks. In the vicinity of the harbor is the village cemetery with an old, partly preserved Baroque church.

Situated on a mild slope covered by olive-groves and pine forests, Gradac is an attractive tourist resort, with one of the most beautiful and longest beaches not only on the Makarska Riviera but also on the entire Adriatic coast.

Economy is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing, fishing and tourism. South of the harbor is Gornja Vala, with the largest and most beautiful beach on the Makarska Riviera. The harbor is protected from all winds; smaller yachts may be berthed on the inner side of the breakwater; larger yachts are docked south of the harbor or in the Bosac Cove (northwest of the harbor).

Recreational facilities include numerous sports grounds and water sports equipment. Apart from an exquisite gastronomic offer, attractive are also numerous feasts visited by the population of other neighbouring places (Drvenik, Brist).
