On the cemetery in Zaostrog there is the Gothic church of St. Barbara, restored in the Baroque period, when a bell tower was added to the front. For a period there was an Augustan convent in Zaostrog, abandoned because of the escape from the Turks in the year 1468. There the construction of the Franciscan monastery began in the 16th century and was completed in the 17th century.

In the interior of the church are marble Baroque altars, a wooden Baroque organ-loft and the organ by master Petar Nakic (18th c.). The church also contains the busts of the poet Andrija Kacic Miosic and of the writer Ivan Despot, works by Ivan Rendic

The monastery keeps a library and the archives with documents important for the period of the Ottoman occupation in these regions, as well as a collection of art exhibits from the 16th-18th century and an ethnographic collection. The donation of painter Mladen Veza was opened to the public in 1989.
